Pereira content to stay at Porto

Porto left-back Alvaro Pereira says his failure to clinch a transfer to Chelsea did not upset him.

The Uruguay international was high on the list of off-season targets for Chelsea coach Andre Villas-Boas, who had worked with the defender at Liga Sagres outfit Porto during the treble-winning 2010/11 season.

But the English Premier League outfit failed to reach an agreement with Porto, who were determined to hold out for the 30 million-euro figure in Pereira s release clause.

I was glad that such an important club showed interest in signing me, the full-back told Monte Carlo TV.

If the transfer did not happen it was for some reason, and I am sure that fate holds something better for me.

I look at this as something positive, rather than a negative thing in my career. All I have to do is look forward and continue to work.

The 26-year-old then rejected suggestions that he has not given his all for Porto this season in a bid to force his exit.

Ever since I played in the Copa America, I have not spoken to the Portuguese press They wrote things like I did not want to play, that I was forcing my exit, that I was unhappy, that there was a bad atmosphere in the dressing room and that the players did not respect the coach (Vitor Pereira), Pereira said.

Whoever informed those reporters, they did it wrong.

Pereira, who joined Porto from CFR Cluj in 2009, has a contract with the Europa League holders until the end of the 2015/16 season.
